Feature Requests

If you would like to see a new feature in Banshee, feel free to add it here, however, please do not introduce duplicates. You may also wish to review the Releases page, which features as they are introduced into Banshee releases.

  • Audible.com
    • Get Jon Lech Johansen to give us Audible.com (http://www.audible.com) audiobook support
  • Mp3 Radio Streaming support (.pls)
  • Ogg (Vorbis) support to burn onto CDs
    • Support to burn Ogg (Vorbis) format CDs

Information

  • Album Art Support (partially done, for CD importing)
  • Gather artist information from Wikipedia

Library Management

  • Genre, artist, album sorting similar to iTunes/Rhythmbox
  • Rearrange music directories and rename filenames, a la iTunes (of course, offer more customizability)
  • Import songs into the Library from a removable device
    • Copy from iPod, for example
  • Custom column display
    • Right click on the library's columns opens a menu, showing available column types therefore enabling the abilty to change the columns that are visible in the library (like aMule/eMule)
  • Remove dead entries
  • Rescan library folder(s) every <set interval> days
  • Enable searching also for Playlists
  • If mouse cursor is over timeslider, scrollwheel moves track 5 seconds forward/backwards
  • When you create a new playlist via drag&drop and the tracks are not in the library, they should automatically be added to the library (NOT the same as "Copy files to Music Folder..." in the Preferences)
  • "Show current track"-Option
  • Ability to search based on "file name" and "containing folder name"
  • Allow compilation CDs (where different tracks have different artists) to be imported into a single directory, rather than spread across one directory per artist (so that the imported directory can be copied easily to use on other devices, like phones that play MP3 files).

Interface

Player Controls

  • Update volume control widget to the "one click" variant used by Rhythmbox, Totem and Sound-Juicer
  • Add support for "Queueing" songs for play without interrupting current song ("Playlist on the go").
  • Select output device in Preferences.
  • Some kind of Control applet for the Gnome System Bar, like Rythmbox or Media Control (in KDE)

Importing

  • Import files from devices by dragging music into the library.
  • Import files from file system by allowing drops from the file manager.

Display

  • Visualizations
  • Notification (song change etc) support
  • Mini-interface, similar to Rhythmbox/iTunes.
  • "Artist - Title" should be displayed in the titlebar instead of "Banshee"

Effects

  • Cross fade between songs similiar to MusikCube/Amarok
  • Equalizer, with pre-configured presets, as in Winamp equalizer.

Device Support

  • Support for other DAPs
    • Neuros
    • iRiver
    • and other devices that mount like usb drives

Other Stuff

  • Plugin system
    • For things like Last.fm support, visualizations, etc.
  • ReplayGain support
    • iTunes-style (iPod-compatible) Sound Check support, also on a per-album basis would be nice ;)
  • Audio normalizing function
  • Play next. e.g. when you right click on a song you can add it to a queue of songs that will play next like Juk
  • use disc-cover  (http://www.vanhemert.co.uk/disc-cover.html) for creating covers, esp. for mix-cd's
  • autoconvert other formats to iPod-supported formats when synchronizing Library w/ iPod

Streaming

  • Incorporate a music server for allowing other Banshees/iTunes to play from here.
