Adding Features - With Plugins
Banshee supports plugins - pieces of extra software that can be added on to provide extra features for your music listening & organizing enjoyment. Many plugins will be included with Banshee by default, and many more will have to be installed from separate packages. See your distribution for the exact details.
As of Banshee 0.11.0, you now have a variety of officially supported plugins to choose from. Your distribution may package them slightly different than others - so look for plugin packages for Banshee.
Banshee Core Plugins:
These are the tried and true plugins, tightly integrated with the core, used by many, loved by all. They should ship right in your Banshee package, and if not, they're only a package away...
- Audioscrobbler: join the Last.FM site, and track your music playback history.
- Music Sharing: (also known as DAAP) - easily and simply share your music collection with other DAAP-enabled computers running Banshee, iTunes, or anything else that supports DAAP.
- Multimedia Keys: A must-have plugin - uses GNOME keyboard shortcuts to control Banshee playback.
- Metadata Searcher: Automatically query MusicBrainz for extra information about tracks that you import, and fetch cover art for displaying on playback.
- Notification Area Icon: Check the status of Banshee even if you don't want to switch to it's workspace. Can also show a small notification popup when changing songs.
- Mini Mode: Display Banshee in a compact, to-the-point manner. No extra frills here - just display your music - that's it.
- Podcast: The long awaited Podcast client. Subscribe, download, and listen to your favourite Podcasts.
- Music Recommendations: Utilizing the genius of Last.FM, display recommended music as it is marked similary on Last.FM. If you have related tracks or albums already in your library, you're just a single click away from listening to it.
- Internet Radio: Does just what it says - allows you to listen to internet radio stations on Banshee.
